Taru‘ah, the day of shouting, the blast of the shofar, the cry of the soul. The shofar, the ram’s horn of authority, is blasted by the people to announce a warning, to prepare for war, and to signal joy. It is the raw, unrefined voice of creation pressed through authority and strength, the cry of the soul declaring that YHWH’s day is near.
